Optional on Big Horn and Laramie, but standard on the TRX4, is the 302-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 with 5-speed automatic transmission. The Dakota offers part-time four wheel drive or rear wheel drive. The Dakota should not be left in 4WD when on dry roads. It includes low-range gearing for going off-road and a 7,250 towing capacity.

With this V8 engine, the Dakota provides ample power for in town driving, as well as sufficient pickup for passing on the highway. The V6 engine configuration is another story altogether. At 3.7 liters, the V6 offers 210 horsepower when run and 235 feet pounds of torque.
Safety Features
